Sustainable ENSR
ENSR Joins World Environment Center to Advance Sustainable Development Activities
ENSR is joining the World Environment Center (WEC), a global non-profit, non-advocacy organization that is a leader in advancing sustainable development business practices. WEC creates sustainable business solutions through individual projects in emerging markets; convenes leadership roundtables to shape strategic thinking across a range of sustainability topics; and honors industry excellence through its annual awarding of the Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development. Its membership includes over 40 of the world's leading corporations.
EPA Green Power Partner
With its purchase of renewable energy credits to offset 100% of the carbon emissions from its North American offices, ENSR has joined the 2007 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Green Power Partnership. EPA's Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program that encourages organizations to purchase green power from renewable resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass to reduce the environmental impacts of conventional electricity use. ENSR's purchase not only exceeded EPA's minimum purchase requirements, but it also qualified the company for EPA's Green Power Leadership Club. ENSR purchased renewable energy credits from 3Degrees, the 2007 U.S. Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Marketer of the Year.
ENSR Australia Goes Carbon Neutral
ENSR Australia is now carbon neutral, which involved conducting sustainability and waste audits, enhanced recycling, and reducing CO2 emissions through more efficient electricity use, increased use of bicycles for commuting, and requiring company vehicles to meet Euro IV vehicle emissions standards. In 2007, ENSR Australia switched to passive renewable energy sources such as hydroelectric and solar power, and puchased carbon credits through Climate Friendly to offset residual greenhouse gas emissions, primarily from business travel and vehicles. The offices have also been proactive with their "green building" initiatives. The new office in Melbourne includes light sensors, a bicycle storage facility, and furniture made from recycled materials, while the Newcastle office goes even further by including energy-efficient lighting, solar water heating, storm water runoff collection and reuse, and individual-zoned air conditioning.
California Climate Action Registry
ENSR is certified by the California Climate Action Registry (CCAR) as a Technical Assistance Provider and as a Certifier for emission reported to the CCAR under the General Reporting Protocol and the Power & Utilities Protocol. As one of a small number of firms designated as both a Third-Party Certifier and Technical Assistance Provider for industry participants in the California Climate Action Registry (CCAR), ENSR is well positioned to assist organizations doing business in California to address their CCAR-related requirements. ENSR has completed several certification projects under the CCAR Certification Protocol, and assists organizations in preparing baseline GHG emissions inventories, as well as develop larger programs to comply with AB 32 requirements.
Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership
ENSR International has been a member of the Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership since its beginning in 1999 and has been recognized with national and state awards for helping to restore thousands of acres of valuable wetlands. As a charter, corporate partner, and member of the National Advisory Council of the CWRP, ENSR contributes scientific, regulatory and management expertise to wetlands projects, working closely with federal wetlands regulatory agencies and local government as well as with corporate representatives.
