Brownfields Initiative Projects
Initiative #1
ENSR's remediation of a contaminated industrial site under Illinois' voluntary cleanup program generated substantial economic benefits for the former property owner, developer, new owners, and the surrounding community.
Our innovative approach to the removal of 25,000 pounds of solvents fro site soils and groundwater saved stakeholders $50 million in remediation costs. ENSR also reduced cleanup time from an estimated 30 years to approximately four years. The bottom line: 95% of the property was redeveloped into a shopping mall upon implementation of ENSR's remediation system.
Initiative #2
ENSR reduced remediation costs by 30% for a major tool manufacturing company through innovative site remediation and rapid demolition of an 80-year-old, 6-acre tool manufacturing site in New Jersey.
Our successful negotiation with regulators for an in-place soil capping plan, instead of excavation and disposal proposed by another consultant, saved Stanley over $1.3 million and rendered the property suitable for a variety of future industrial uses.
Capping soils in place also freed the company from the liabilities and risks associated with transporting contaminated materials off-site.
Initiative #3
ENSR recently remediated a contaminated industrial site under the Colorado Voluntary Cleanup Act. Just 9 to 12 months following agreement on our cleanup approach, ENSR complete site remediation at a cost of about $350,000.
Under strict RCRA or CERCLA requirements, cleanup costs would likely have exceeded $1 million and taken years to achieve. Today, the property is already being redeveloped as a manufacturing facility.
